An 8-day Mercy Mission and Peace Caravan from June 25-July 02 will be held in South Quezon and Bondoc Peninsula areas of Quezon Province to assess the peace situation in one of the most militarized province in Southern Tagalog region.
On June 25, 8:30 AM, church institutions, LGU officials and people’s organizations will lead the formation of Save Bondoc Peninsula Movement at the College of Mass Communication, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City. A Press Conference will kick-off the assembly.
During the launching, 127 doves will be released to symbolize the 127 victims of human rights violations documented in Quezon since 2011. Victims of illegal abduction and 5-rural poor families forced to evacuate due to combat activities of Philippine Army in Quezon is also expected to share their testimonies.
After the launching, the Peace Caravan will proceed to Lucena City and until July 1 will cover towns of Bondoc Peninsula and Southern Quezon.
The caravan will return on July 2 at the National Capital Region to present the results of the Mercy Mission in a Public and Media Forum.
A nationally coordinated campaign dubbed as “Search the Camp for Palparan” will be held on June 26 in line with the International Day of Protest Against Torture. The Peace Caravan will be “searching and conducting a citizen’s arrest” in various military camps & detachments in Quezon.
